Today (3/1/14) was all about the Spanish Town Parade in Baton Rouge. We left at around 10:00 this morning, and we just got back home around 6:00 P.M. We caught a bunch of junk, and watched float after float (hundreds?).
It was fun, but OMG the sun was intense. Apparently it was only around 80 degrees outside, but that sun was beating down on us, and I’m not used to it yet. Just wait until the summer comes! The best part of the parade, to me, was the lawn mower people. It was really funny seeing old guys dance around to the music. Good times!
After the parade we ate at Coyote Moon off of Acadian with some friends. The food is so good there. That’s definitely one of my favorite restaurants.
One the notary front, I had two jobs today that are worth talking about:
- I did a trailer transfer that took longer than it should have. This is one of those trailers that you can sleep in. The man was selling it for $4,000 which seemed cheap to me. I could live in it. The problem was that the buyers didn’t show up until 35 minutes after the time I was told to be there. This is exactly why I don’t like to go to a vehicle transfer until everyone is there and calls me. The seller was a nice guy, and the conversation was good, but having me sit around and wait (for free) is just bad business. I’m a sucker at heart, but I need to put the hammer down on that issue. I waited over an hour once, so it seems like I should have learned my lesson.
- The other noteworthy notary job today involved a man that will be passing soon. He and his family was smart enough to do some life planning work before it’s too late. I met everyone at their home in Prairieville (Ascension Parish), and it was really nice with a pond in their back yard. We notarized a financial power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, living will, and a last will and testament. I probably undercharged them, but like I said, I’m a sucker.
I am supposed to meet a family later tonight to deal with a bail bondsman, but I really want to just lay down and watch t.v. That sun really got to me!
